One Health emphasizes that human health is connected to the health of animals and the environment, and it relies on collaboration across many fields to keep people safe from disease. Zoonoses—illnesses that can move between animals and people—show why this link matters. By bringing together medicine, veterinary science, ecology, microbiology, public health, wildlife biology, and environmental science, we can detect threats earlier, share data, and design interventions that reduce risk at the source, whether through safer food systems, protecting ecosystems, or controlling environmental factors that drive disease spread. The statement that highlights the connection among human, animal, and environmental health and the use of interdisciplinary efforts to prevent diseases that cross between species best captures this approach. Focusing only on humans misses the animal and environmental dimensions; veterinary medicine alone doesn’t address human and environmental health; and One Health is relevant globally because infectious diseases can cross borders.
